Write any amount in words
Type an amount and get it in words for a cheque, invoice, receipt, quotation, salary slip or contract: "Rupees One Lakh Twenty-Five Thousand Five Hundred Only", plus the Urdu wording "ایک لاکھ پچیس ہزار پانچ سو روپے". It uses the lakh and crore system used in Pakistan, or million and billion if you prefer, and includes paisa.
How to write a cheque correctly
- Write the amount in words on the line starting "Rupees", and end with Only so nothing can be added after it.
- Write the figure in the box, ending with /-, for example Rs 125,500/-.
- Start writing close to the left edge and draw a line through any empty space.
Questions
Is 1,000,000 ten lakh or one million?
Both: 1,000,000 = 10 lakh = 1 million. 1 crore = 100 lakh = 10 million. Switch the counting system above to see either wording.
How are paisa written?
As "and Fifty Paisa" before "Only", for example "Rupees Two Thousand and Fifty Paisa Only". Most cheques are written in whole rupees.
What comes after crore?
In English cheque wording, crore is repeated: "One Hundred Fifty Crore". In Urdu, 100 crore is ایک ارب (one arab) and 100 arab is ایک کھرب (one kharab).
Should I write "and" between hundred and the rest?
Banks accept both. Cheques usually leave it out ("One Hundred Twenty-Five"), as this tool does, to keep the line short.
