Lock a PDF with a password, or remove a password

Protect a PDF (salary slips, bank statements, CNIC copies, contracts) with a password before emailing it, using strong AES-256 encryption. Or remove the password from a PDF you can already open, such as a bank statement that asks for your CNIC or date of birth every time, so it opens directly. Everything happens in your browser; your PDF and password are never uploaded.

How it works

  1. Choose a PDF. The tool checks whether it already has a password.
  2. To lock: type a password twice and press Lock PDF. To unlock: type the current password and press Remove password.
  3. Download the new PDF. Your original file isn't changed.

Questions

I forgot the password. Can you open it?

No. This tool only removes passwords you know. Strong PDF passwords can't be recovered, which is exactly why they protect your files.

What password do bank statements use?

Usually your CNIC number, date of birth or part of your account number. The bank's email normally explains which.

How do I send the password safely?

Don't put it in the same email as the PDF. Send it separately, for example by SMS or a phone call.

Is AES-256 secure?

Yes. It's the strongest encryption PDFs support. A long password (12+ characters) makes it practically impossible to guess.
