Remove location and hidden details from photos
Photos from phones often carry hidden Exif data: the exact GPS location where they were taken (often your home), the phone model, and the date and time. Anyone who gets the original file can read it. This tool shows you what's inside, then removes it and gives you a clean copy, without re-compressing the picture. It runs in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded.
When to clean a photo
- Before selling something on OLX or Facebook Marketplace with photos taken at home.
- Before sending photos to strangers, posting on forums or sharing original files by email or Google Drive.
- Before publishing photos of your house, children or workplace.
Questions
Doesn't WhatsApp already remove the location?
WhatsApp and Facebook remove most metadata from photos sent normally. But photos sent as a document, by email, Google Drive, Bluetooth or USB keep everything.
Why keep the rotation?
Phones often save photos sideways and use a small tag to say "turn this upright". Keeping only that tag means the photo still shows the right way up. It contains no personal information.
Does it work on iPhone HEIC photos?
Not directly. Convert them with the HEIC to JPG converter; converted photos don't keep the location.
How do I stop my phone saving the location?
Android: open the Camera app settings and turn off "Location tags". iPhone: Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Camera → Never.
