JPG to PNG converter: how it works
PNG is a lossless format, so it is useful when you will edit an image further or a form specifically asks for PNG. Choose your JPG files and they are saved as PNG. Note that PNG files are usually larger than JPG.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. It keeps the current quality without adding further compression, but it can't restore detail that the JPG already lost.
Why is the PNG bigger?
PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression, so photos become larger files. That is normal.
How to compress images
- Choose your images.
- Pick the format and quality. Add a max width if the images are very large, e.g. phone photos.
- Press Compress images, check the new sizes, then download one by one or all as a ZIP.
Questions
What is WebP and should I use it?
WebP is a modern image format that is usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality. All current browsers show it, so it's ideal for websites and online stores. For sending to older apps or printing, choose JPG.
How do I make my photo under 50 KB for a job application?
Choose your photo, set "Target file size" to "Under 50 KB", choose JPG, and press Compress. The tool lowers the quality, and the size if needed, until the photo fits. If the portal also asks for exact dimensions, enter them as the max width and height.
Why did a file get bigger?
This happens when the original was already heavily compressed, or when saving a photo as PNG. Try JPG or WebP with a lower quality, or keep the original.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser. Your images stay on your device.
Does it remove location data from photos?
Yes. Saving a new copy drops the hidden photo information (EXIF), including GPS location, which is good for privacy before posting online.
