Free resume screening tool: how it works
Recruiters and HR teams often receive hundreds of CVs for one job. Paste the job description, choose the CV folder, and get a ranked list with matched and missing skills, experience estimates and contact details. It is all done in your browser, so candidate data never leaves your computer.
Is this an ATS?
It's a lightweight screening step, not a full applicant tracking system. Use it to shortlist quickly, then manage candidates in your usual way.
Is it fair to candidates?
Scores only use skills, experience and relevance to the job, never names, gender, age, photos or universities. Always read shortlisted CVs yourself.
How the CV Shortlister works
- Paste the job description. The tool finds skills, qualifications and years of experience. Lines under "Requirements" become must-haves; "preferred" or "nice to have" items become nice-to-haves. Edit them freely.
- Choose the CVs. Pick files or a whole folder of PDF and Word CVs. They are read inside your browser and never uploaded.
- Rank. Each CV gets a score out of 100: must-have skills (50%), nice-to-haves (20%), years of experience (15%) and overall relevance to the job text (15%). You get the top 3 with reasons, plus a full ranked list you can export to Excel.
Tips for better results
- Keep must-haves to the few things you truly need. Too many must-haves pushes good candidates down.
- Use "or" for alternatives, e.g.
MySQL or PostgreSQL,ACCA or CA. - Scanned CVs (photos of paper) contain no readable text. They are listed separately so you can check them by hand.
Questions
Are the CVs uploaded to your server?
No. Everything happens on your computer, in your browser. That makes it safe for candidates' personal data; nothing is stored once you close the page.
Does it use AI?
Not yet. It uses a skills dictionary built for the Pakistani job market, keyword relevance (the same idea search engines use) and experience estimates from dates on the CV. Every score comes with the reasons, so you can see exactly why a CV ranked where it did.
Which file types work?
PDF and Word .docx files, and plain .txt. Old .doc files (Word 97–2003) and images can't be read; save them as PDF or .docx first.
How is experience calculated?
From date ranges on the CV, such as "Jan 2021 – Present", leaving out education dates, or from statements like "5 years of experience", whichever is higher. It's an estimate, so check it in the CV.
