US visa photo (2 × 2 inch): how it works

US visa and passport applications need a square 2 × 2 inch photo with your head centred and a plain white or off-white background. Choose your photo, line your face up with the guide, and download the single photo or a print sheet.

What size is a US visa photo in pixels?

For online applications, 600 × 600 pixels is a common minimum. This tool saves 2 × 2 inch photos at 300 DPI, which is exactly 600 × 600 pixels.

Can I wear glasses?

US rules generally do not allow glasses in visa photos. Check the current official requirements before you apply.

How to make a passport size photo at home

  1. Stand in front of a plain white or light wall, face the camera straight, with even light and no shadows.
  2. Choose the photo, pick the size, then drag and zoom so your face fits the oval guide.
  3. Download the single photo for online forms, or the print sheet for a photo shop (4 × 6 inch) or your printer (A4, print at 100% / "actual size").

Questions

Which size should I choose?

35 × 45 mm is the standard passport size for most countries and many Pakistani forms. The US uses 2 × 2 inch. Always check the exact rules of the embassy or form you are applying to.

Will the embassy accept a photo I made myself?

Most accept home-made photos that follow their rules (size, plain background, neutral expression, no glasses glare). Read the official photo requirements before printing; this tool doesn't check them for you.

The print came out the wrong size.

Print the PDF at 100% ("Actual size"), not "Fit to page". At a photo shop, ask for a 4 × 6 inch print without cropping.
