- 1 tola = 11.664 grams = 12 masha. 1 masha = 8 ratti.
- Karat is purity out of 24: 22K jewellery is 22/24 = 91.7% gold, so its price is 91.7% of the 24K rate before making charges.
- Making charges (banwai) are added when you buy jewellery, either per tola or as a percentage.
- Deduction (kaat) is taken off when you sell jewellery back.

Why doesn't my jeweller's price match exactly?
Jewellers may use a slightly different rate for 22K or 21K, add stone weight, or round the weight. Ask for the weight, purity and making charges separately and compare.
