Image to Base64: how it works

Choose an image to get its Base64 code as a data URL, an HTML <img> tag or a CSS background, ready to paste into a web page or email template. Use the last tab to turn Base64 back into an image.

When should I use Base64 images?

For small icons and logos in emails, HTML files and CSS. Big photos are better as normal files.

Is my image uploaded?

No. It is read and converted in your browser.

Encode and decode Base64

Base64 turns text or a file into plain letters and numbers so it can travel inside JSON, HTML, CSS or email. This converter handles Urdu and other Unicode text correctly (UTF-8), turns images into data URLs for websites and emails, and turns Base64 back into a downloadable image or file. Everything runs in your browser.

Questions

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Anyone can decode it. It's a way to write data with safe characters, not a way to hide it.

Why is the Base64 bigger than my image?

Base64 is about 33% larger than the original file. Use it for small images like icons and logos; link to normal image files for big photos.
